Holy Tuesday
The Parable of the Ten Virgins

When: Tuesday of Holy Week.
Holy Tuesday centers on Christ’s parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25), five wise ones whose lamps were ready when the bridegroom came, and five foolish ones who were shut out. The lamp oil is understood as a life of prayer, mercy and readiness.
The day also recalls Christ’s last teachings in the Temple, including His words about the Last Judgment and the parable of the talents.
On Tuesday evening the hymn of St Kassia is sung, the moving lament of the sinful woman who anointed Christ.
