Abraham of Bulgaria (Russian: Авраамий Болгарский; died April 1, 1229) was a Christian convert from Islam later who was martyred for his faith and is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Abraham as a patron when they bear the name Abraham at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 6. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
