Why they are a saint

Abramius was a Christian of noble birth who, early in life, left all (including a young bride) to live as a solitary monk. The Orthodox Church commemorates Abramius the Recluse on October 29.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Abramius the Recluse as a patron when they bear the name Abramius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 29. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
