Why they are a saint
The Holy Martyr Acacius was brought to trial for his belief in Christ. Three governors attempted to compel the holy martyr to offer sacrifice to idols, having subjected him to fierce tortures. Governor Licinius gave orders to rend the body of Saint Acacius with instruments of torture. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Orthodox Christians usually take Acacius of Apamea as a patron when they bear the name Acacius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 28. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
