Why they are a saint
Holy Hieromartyr and Confessor Agathangel, Metropolitan of Yaroslavl († 1928) are commemorated by the Orthodox Church on October 3. Venerated as hieromartyrs, clergy who were put to death for the faith in Christ; little else about their lives has come down to us.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Agathangel as a patron when they bear the name Hieromartyr at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 3. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
