Why they are a saint
The Holy Martyr Aithalas the Deacon, by order of the Persian emperor Sapor II, was put to death by stoning in the year 380 for confessing Christ. The Orthodox Church commemorates Aithalas of Persia on September 1.

Orthodox Christians usually take Aithalas of Persia as a patron when they bear the name Aithalas at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 1. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
