Why they are a saint
Born in Asia and educated in Constantinople, he went into the army after completing his studies and became an officer. The Orthodox Church commemorates Alexander on July 3.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Alexander as a patron when they bear the name Alexander at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 3. Greek Orthodox faithful also honor his as one of their own.
