Why they are a saint

Saint Alexander of Oshevensk (+ 1479) was the founder of the Oshevensk Dormition Monastery and enlightener of the Kargopol area, and was tonsured in the White Lake Monastery. The Orthodox Church commemorates Alexander on April 20.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Alexander as a patron when they bear the name Alexander at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 20. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
