Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyrs Amphianus (Apphianus) and Edesius (Aidesius) were brothers. They lived in the city of Patara (province of Lycia) in the family of the pagan governor. They went to the city of Beirut to study the pagan sciences. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Amphianus and Edesius of Lycia as a patron when they bear the name Amphianus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 2. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
