Why they are a saint
Saint Angelar was a medieval Bulgarian saint and Slavic enlightener. He was one of the most prominent disciples of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Along with them and Saint Gorazd, Saint Clement of Ohrid, Naum of Preslav and Saint Sava he is venerated as a member of a group known as the "Seven Saints".
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Angelar as a patron when they bear the name Angelar at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 27. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
