Why they are a saint

Saint Anna was a noblewoman who sold all her possessions and gave the money to the poor. She received the monastic tonsure from Saint Stephen the New while he was living on Mount Auxentius in Bithynia. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Anna as a patron when they bear the name Anna at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 28. As a martyr, she is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
