Why they are a saint

Saint Anna (Susanna) of Leukadio (or Leukati) was born in Constantinople in 840 during the reign of Emperor Theophilos the iconoclast (829-842), and was the daughter of a wealthy and distinguished family. The Orthodox Church commemorates Anna of Leukadio on July 23.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Anna of Leukadio as a patron when they bear the name Anna at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 23. Greek Orthodox faithful also honor her as one of their own.
