Why they are a saint

Our holy father Anton of Martqopi arrived in Georgia in the 6th century with the rest of the Thirteen Syrian Fathers and settled in Kakheti to preach the Gospel of Christ. The Orthodox Church commemorates Anthony on January 19.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Anthony as a patron when they bear the name Anthony at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 19. Georgian Orthodox faithful also honor his as one of their own.
