Why they are a saint

The holy New Martyr Argyra lived in Proussa, Bithynia, and came from a pious family. She was a beautiful and virtuous woman. When she was eighteen, she married a pious Christian, and they moved into a neighborhood inhabited by many Moslems. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Argyra as a patron when they bear the name Argyra at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 30. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
