Why they are a saint

Saint Arsenius of Komel was born in Moscow, and was descended from a noble family, the Sakharusov. In his youth he was tonsured at the Trinity-Sergiev monastery, and he occupied himself there with the copying of books. There is a Gospel that he copied in the year 1506. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Arsenius as a patron when they bear the name Arsenius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 24. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
