Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyr Asclas was a Christian, born in the city of Great Hermopolis (Middle Egypt). The saint suffered under Diocletian (284-305). Brought before the governor Arrian, Saint Asclas boldly confessed his faith and refused to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Asclas of Egypt as a patron when they bear the name Asclas at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 20. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
