The Hieromartyr Athenogoras and his Ten Disciples suffered for Christ during the time of persecution against Christians in the city of Sebasteia. The Orthodox Church commemorates Athenogoras on July 16.

Orthodox Christians usually take Athenogoras as a patron when they bear the name Athenogoras at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 16. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
