Why they are a saint

Basil, son of Bagrat (Georgian: ბასილი ბაგრატის ძე, romanized: basili bagrat'is dze) was an 11th-century Georgian monk and man of letters in the Kingdom of Georgia, frequently identified as a son of King Bagrat III. He was active at the Khakhuli Monastery. He is a saint of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Basil of Khakhuli as a patron when they bear the name Basil at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 27. Georgian Orthodox faithful also honor his as one of their own.
