Saint Basil the Confessor was a monk and suffered during the reign of the iconoclast emperor Leo the Isaurian (717-741). The Orthodox Church commemorates Basil the Confessor on February 28.

Orthodox Christians usually take Basil the Confessor as a patron when they bear the name Basil at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 28. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
