The Martyr Bata, a monastic, lived during the fourth century in Persia and labored there in one of the monasteries. The Orthodox Church commemorates Bata the Persian on May 1.

Orthodox Christians usually take Bata the Persian as a patron when they bear the name Bata at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 1. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
