Why they are a saint

A son of the Bulgarian Khan Presian, he was instructed in the faith by St Photios, Patriarch of Constantinople. The Orthodox Church commemorates Boris on May 2.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Boris as a patron when they bear the name Boris at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 2. As an apostle, he is also asked to pray for missionaries and those who spread the Gospel.
