Why they are a saint

Saints Cantidius and Cantidian were brothers who lived in Egypt during the fourth century. They were put to death by stoning. Saint Sibelius (Soleb) was shot with arrows. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Cantidius as a patron when they bear the name Cantidius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 5. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
