Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyrs Carpus and Papylus (also those with them: Agathadorus and Agathonica) suffered for Christ in the city of Pergamon, during the persecution under Emperor Decius, about 251. The Orthodox Church commemorates Carpos on October 13.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Carpos as a patron when they bear the name Carpos at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 13. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
