Why they are a saint

Saint Cassian of Komel and Vologda was a disciple of Saint Cornelius of Komel (May 19) and he guided the Komel monastery after Saint Cornelius went to Lake Sura. The Orthodox Church commemorates Cassian on May 16.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Cassian as a patron when they bear the name Cassian at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 16. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
