Why they are a saint
Saint Cherimon was an ascetic in Egypt in the Skete desert monastery, either at the end of the fourth century, or the beginning years of the fifth century. The Orthodox Church commemorates Cherimon on August 16.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Cherimon as a patron when they bear the name Cherimon at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 16. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
