Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyrs Christopher, Theonas, and Anthony were officers in the army of the emperor Diocletian (284-305). The Orthodox Church commemorates Christopher on April 19.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Christopher as a patron when they bear the name Christopher at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 19. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
