Why they are a saint
Saint Comgall (Comhghall), “the Father of Monks,” was born in Ireland at Dalaradia, Co. Ulster sometime between 510 and 520. Unlike many of the early Irish saints, Saint Comgall was not of noble birth. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Orthodox Christians usually take Comgall of Bangor as a patron when they bear the name Comgall at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 10. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
