Why they are a saint

Constantine Brancoveanu was known as prince of Wallachia beheaded in Constantinople with his sons for refusing to abandon Orthodoxy. The years given for this life are 1654–1714. His feast remembers that faithful death. This memory is kept in the Romanian Church.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Constantine Brancoveanu as a patron when they bear the name Constantine at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 16. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
