Why they are a saint

The Martyrs Cyriacus, Faustus the Presbyter, (Habib) Abibas the Deacon, and eleven other martyrs suffered martyrdom for Christ at Alexandria under the emperor Decius (249-251). The Orthodox Church commemorates Cyriacus on September 6.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Cyriacus as a patron when they bear the name Cyriacus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 6. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
