Why they are a saint

Saint Daniel of Pereslavl (in the world Demetrius) was born around 1460 in the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky. He was the son of pious and God-loving parents, Constantine and Theodosia, who later was tonsured as a nun with the name Thekla. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Daniel as a patron when they bear the name Daniel at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 7. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
