Why they are a saint

Saint Daniel of Shugh Hill was born in the Moscow dominion in the sixteenth century. He performed his ascetic labors in northern Rus, where he became a monk at the Komel monastery, founded by Saint Cornelius of Komel in 1498. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Daniel as a patron when they bear the name Daniel at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 21. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
