Why they are a saint

Saint Daniel the Confessor, (in the schema Stephen) lived in the tenth century. He was a Spanish dignitary, and prefect of the island of Niverta. Venerated as a confessor who suffered for openly professing faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Daniel the Confessor as a patron when they bear the name Daniel at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 17. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
