Why they are a saint

Daniel was an Egyptian Christian monk who lived around the 4th century in the desert of Lower Egypt. He is considered a Desert Father. He was a disciple and biographer of Arsenius the Great. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Daniel as a patron when they bear the name Daniel at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 18. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
