David the King was king of Israel, prophet, psalmist; ancestor of Christ according to the flesh. The years given for this life are c. 10th century BC. His memory is kept with the other Old Testament righteous whom the Church venerates as saints.

Orthodox Christians usually take David the King as a patron when they bear the name David at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 27. Those who share his calling as a musician also ask his prayers.
