Why they are a saint

Saint Dorotheus, Egyptian Hermit, a native of the Thebaid region in Egypt, labored in asceticism for 60 years in the Skete desert, on the Western side of the River Nile. The Orthodox Church commemorates Dorotheos the Hermit of Egypt on September 16.

Orthodox Christians usually take Dorotheos the Hermit of Egypt as a patron when they bear the name Dorotheos at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 16. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
