New Calendar September 24 Old Calendar October 7

Why they are a saint

Saint Dorothy of Kashin was born in 1549 of a noble family. No information has come down to us about her name before she became a nun, or the place of her birth. From the age of twelve, she lived in a climate of civil unrest, and the area was subject to rebellion, invasion, and plague. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Dorothy of Kashin as a patron when they bear the name Dorothy at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 24. As a monastic, she is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
