Why they are a saint

The Holy Prophet Elisha (Elisei) lived in the ninth century before the Birth of Christ, and was a native of the village of Abelmaum, near Jordan. The Orthodox Church commemorates Prophet on June 14.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Elisha as a patron when they bear the name Prophet at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 14. As a prophet, he is also honored by those who seek to hear and keep God's word.
