Why they are a saint

Martyrs Elpidius, Marcellus and Eustochius, were burned to death for Christ during the reign of the Emperor Julian the Apostate. The Orthodox Church commemorates Elpidias on November 15.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Elpidias as a patron when they bear the name Elpidias at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 15. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
