Why they are a saint
On the banks of Lake Genesareth (Galilee), between the cities of Capharnum and Tiberias, was situated the small city of Magdala, the remains of which have survived to our day. The Orthodox Church commemorates Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary on July 22.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Traditionally asked to pray for myrrh-sellers / perfumers, witnesses of the Resurrection. The reason for this custom is not recorded here.
