Why they are a saint

The Martyrs Eudoxius, Zeno, Macarius and their Companions received a martyric death for Christ under the emperor Maximian Galerius, the successor of the emperor Diocletian. The Orthodox Church commemorates Eudoxius on September 6.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Eudoxius as a patron when they bear the name Eudoxius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 6. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
