Why they are a saint

She was the daughter of Prince Vseslav of Polotsk. When her parents wished her to be married, she ran away to a monastery and became a nun. An angel of the Lord appeared to her three times to show her the place where she was to build a new monastery for virgins. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Orthodox Christians usually take Euphrosyne as a patron when they bear the name Euphrosyne at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 23. As a monastic, she is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
