Why they are a saint

These five courageous men shone like five resplendent stars in the dark days of the anti-Christian Emperors Diocletian and Maximian. The Orthodox Church commemorates Eustratius on December 13.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Eustratius as a patron when they bear the name Eustratius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 13. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
