Why they are a saint
Saints Euthymius and Neophytus, founders of the Dochiariou Monastery on Mount Athos, an uncle and his nephew, belonged to the highest Byzantine aristocracy. The Orthodox Church commemorates Euthymius on November 9.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Euthymius as a patron when they bear the name Euthymius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 9. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
