Why they are a saint

Euthymius of Sardis, Bishop of Sardis, is kept among the saints. Euthymius of Sardis or Euthymius the Confessor was metropolitan bishop of Sardis between ca. 785 and ca. 804, and a leading iconophile during the period of Byzantine Iconoclasm. The Church honors him as a hieromartyr, one who died for Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Euthymius of Sardis as a patron when they bear the name Euthymius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 26. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
