The Schemamonk Euthymius of the Kiev Caves imposed upon himself a vow of silence, opening his mouth only for church services and for prayer. The Orthodox Church commemorates Euthymius the Schemamonk on January 20.

Orthodox Christians usually take Euthymius the Schemamonk as a patron when they bear the name Euthymius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 20. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
