Why they are a saint

Saint Ekvtime (Euthymius) Takaishvili, called the “Man of God,” was born January 3, 1863, in the village of Likhauri, in the Ozurgeti district of Guria, to the noble family of Svimeon Takaishvili and Gituli Nakashidze. The Orthodox Church commemorates Euthymius on January 3.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Euthymius as a patron when they bear the name Euthymius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 3. Georgian Orthodox faithful also honor his as one of their own.
