Why they are a saint
The Prophet Ezekiel ("God is strong") was the son of Buzi and a priest by rank. He was taken captive and brought to Babylon during the reign of Jechonias. Venerated as a prophet of God.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Ezekiel the Prophet as a patron when they bear the name Ezekiel at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 23. As a prophet, he is also honored by those who seek to hear and keep God's word.
