Why they are a saint

The Martyr Florentius was a native of Thessalonica. Zealous for the glory of God, he fearlessly unmasked the darkness of idolatry and led many to the light of true knowledge of God. He taught faith in Christ and fulfilled the will of God. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Florentios the Martyr of Thessaloniki as a patron when they bear the name Florentios at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 13. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
