Why they are a saint

Saint Fructuosis lived during the persecution of Valerian and Gallienus in the third century, during the consulship of Amelianus and Bassus. The Orthodox Church commemorates Fructuosis on January 21.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Fructuosis as a patron when they bear the name Fructuosis at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 21. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
