New Calendar October 21 Old Calendar November 3

Why they are a saint

The Martyrs Gaius, Dasius, and Zoticus of Nicomedia suffered martyrdom in the year 303, under the emperor Diocletian (284-305), because they destroyed a pagan temple. The Orthodox Church commemorates Gaius on October 21.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Gaius as a patron when they bear the name Gaius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 21. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
